About the Red Sky Ride

The aim of the Red Sky Ride founders and the SolarisCare Foundation is to create a sustainable high profile, quality sporting event in Western Australia. An event that will not only test the endurance and commitment of the riders but one that will also increase the awareness in the wider community of the SolarisCare Foundation - Cancer Support Centres and the importance, of physical and emotional wellbeing and the link to quality of life.

Our goal is to raise $1,000,000 over five years for the SolarisCare Foundation's Cancer Support Centres. This will assist SolarisCare in achieving their ongoing goals to create new facilities and widen the access to their services; extend their education programmes; return their expertise and experience to the wider community, particularly for rural and remote area patients; support research into the known benefits of the services which alleviate distress and anxiety and measurably improve quality of life.

The Red Sky Ride has a strong project management team consisting of three working committees who meet regularly:
1. Event, Strategic Management
2. Ride Logistics, Rider training
3. Event implementation.

The Red Sky Ride rider participants are all senior managers / business owners / professionals who are prepared to make a major commitment to the event. Juggling careers, business and families, they have extensive networks which will assist with both the raising of the profile and validation of the importance of the services provided by the SolarisCare Foundation – Cancer Support Centres.

The Red Sky Riders are supported by a cycling coach, an exercise physiologist overseeing fitness testing and programme implementation plus a nutritionist providing advice on both training and event nutritional requirements.

The Red Sky Riders commit to:

• Pay $1500 per rider participation fee to cover direct costs
• Make time to meet the training and fitness requirements
• Participate in fundraising and publicity events
• Maintain and support a high standard of behaviours and consistent message delivery
• Take the required time off work
• Achieve all this whilst maintaining their own personal commitments

Financial and event security and risk management is a priority and is addressed by activities including but not restricted to; maximum security of the web site for donations; full insurance of the event and associated activities by Ansvar; preventative and response based strategies for crashes / injuries.
